McColm & Company seeks a subject matter expert instructor to design, deliver, and manage a 5 day course covering the culture, history, politics, economy, security, and other key elements and dynamics of the country/region.
Set against the backdrop of U.S. policy priorities in South Asia, this course provides participants with an in-depth understanding of the South Asian country/countries they will serve in or work on including: Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka. The first half of the week consists of country specific breakouts designed to help you develop a deeper understanding of individual countries to include history, political landscape, socio-cultural dynamics, economic trends, and current issues of concern. This is followed by a hands-on workshop to provide grounded insights into identity narratives, cultural demographics, social groupings, and sociocultural norms as we analyze how these impact socio-cultural life, political change, contemporary conflicts, future and, consequently, our engagement. At the end of the week, we will shift our focus to regional dynamics and emerging trans-regional relationships shaping the region, with an emphasis on security and stability. This seminar combines interactive lectures, student-led discussions, expert panels, workshops, music, films, and participatory activities (e.g. cooking lesson, field visits, etc.) Course instruction is supplemented by independent study time to complete required readings and/or viewing as well as small group work.
