Australia, New Zealand and the Pacific Course Coordinator
McColm & Company (McCO) supports the Area Studies Division at the Foreign Service Institute of the U.S. Department of State by providing essential Area Studies training to State Department and USG personnel and contractors. McCO seeks a subject matter expert instructor to serve as the Course Coordinator. The successful candidate will design, deliver, and manage the 5-day sub-regional course covering Australia, New Zealand, and the Pacific.
The objective of the course is to provide area knowledge to prepare foreign affairs professionals to carry out their responsibilities working in or on Australia, New Zealand, and the Pacific. This course provides participants with a strong background in history, regional relations, geography and culture while introducing them to politics, economics and societies of Australia, New Zealand, and all Pacific Island Nations – with a special focus on those aspects which most directly affect U.S. interests and policy goals. It examines key political and economic institutions of these countries and focuses on U.S. business and security relations, regional relations, democratic transitions and human rights concerns within the region. The course combines lectures, class discussions, documentaries and other participatory activities, such as the preparation of a paper and/or an oral presentation in class, and supported by readings.
TERMS OF REFERENCE
The course is 5 days in length, beginning August 31, 2020 and ending September 4, 2020. The course will temporarily be delivered remotely, online, due to COVID-19. The Course Coordinator is expected to:
